Teaching Tolerance

The Southern Poverty Law Center is an excellent source of materials for teaching tolerance and reconciling relationships. Go to the website www.splcenter.com and click on Teaching Tolerance in the heading at the top of the page. The Teaching Tolerance program is designed to ensure that every classroom in America is equipped with tools needed to help children learn to live together in harmony. Newsweek magazine considers it "a winner (among) programs providing moral education."

All materials —curriculum kits, videos, etc. —are free of charge to educators and schools across the country. The Teaching Tolerance magazine, which presents activities, stories and teaching hints, is sent twice a year to give practical ideas for promoting an appreciation of diversity and the valuees of democracy. Past issues have dealt with bullying, anger management and other relationship problems. More than 500,000 educators in more than 80,000 schools already receive and use the center's materials.
